I'm looking forward to some reading this weekend too, and I'm enjoying a writing break right now. Believe me, writing is a big relief from the packing marathon my husband and I have been on.

As I've mentioned before, we are MOVING on September 21. The countdown is on... 19 Days!

We've packed up almost everything already. We're down to minimalist levels of clothing, dishes, furniture, and supplies. I had to STOP my sweet guy from packing up our bedding. Whoa!!! Where are we going to sleep for almost 3 weeks?!

That man was on a ROLL.

He packed up our dining table and chairs. We'll be eating at the counter bar. I don't know what our two-year-old grandson will think when he finds not only his booster seat gone, but his chair and the entire table too!

Jax was here on Thursday and his toy shelf was gone. He pointed to the empty spot and asked, "Where is it?"

The missing shelf used to be on our screened porch. He 'd run cars along the shelves, line up shells from the beach, or host conversations with the garden gnomes who live on the porch.

No worries, though -- I saved a few books and toys and cars for the child to play with. We still have some GIgi Days before moving day. I'm explaining that Gigi and Pap are moving to a new house that's closer to his house. He just looks at me. I'm not sure how much his little mind can comprehend. He hasn't experienced anyone in his circle moving to a new house yet.

I know he'll LOVE that we'll be close by. It's currently a 25 minute drive to his house. Almost an hour round trip precludes quick stop overs. Jax will soon have more time with Gigi and Pap, a bigger room at our house, and a giant porch to play on.

Just in time for prime porch weather!

In North Carolina, spring and fall are porch seasons! Summer can get too hot and humid. At the end of September, we look forward to sipping sweet tea on this big wrap-around porch. October will bring cider, and in our neck of the woods, sometimes it's even warm enough to enjoy a winter cup of cocoa on the porch.

For now, Labor Day brings relocating our moving container. (I can't believe the company is open on Labor Day, but that's when we're scheduled.) The container is pretty much full, so other than directing the driver, I'm hoping we can take a much-needed break on Labor Day.

Oh, and I'll be taking my plants to my daughter-in-law for plant sitting. We're down to the wire on space and I can only load so much into my SUV.

When you're closing on your current house and your new house on the same day, the logistics of moving are quite challenging to figure out where to put all your stuff.

Whew! We're getting there.

And the best news? Hubby and I have only had one little moment of irritation with one another. (Uh, yeah, it was about packing up the bedding. Haha!) We're pretty much on the same page and giving each other lots of grace this time around.

It's really cool how much you learn about each other after 40 years of marriage. :)

Enjoy the long weekend!

We built a deck at the beginning of summer, but haven't really gotten to enjoy it yet. As you know, it's hard to want to sit outside when it's 96 degrees and sweat is rolling down your forehead while you sit perfectly still. I'm really looking forward to fall evenings on the deck!
