~Letter from Myrtle~
Hello, I’m Myrtle Winthrop. I own Buttons & Bows Dress Shop in downtown Crystal Falls. My customers never let me down when it comes to passing along juicy tidbits of news. I’m also a regular at Rapunzel’s Beauty Salon, where my friends and I make weekly visits to get our hair done and catch up with one another.
Although I've never spotted her at Rapunzel's, Dianne Miley always gets first dibs on the best secrets. I have no idea how she manages that. Almost like those people are in her head. Hmm.
She tells some interesting stories about the young women in our small town. First she wrote about Laura James in the book, Lilacs for Laura. The James family founded this town and Laura’s always been a good girl. Except when she had those incidents with her brother-in-law Jake. Good thing Brett Mitchell came along to save her. Much as I love gossip, Dianne threatens to break my pen if I tell you any more than that. So you’ll have to read the book! As for Brett, that boy is handsome, but his father’s a brute. Wayne Mitchell operates the garage here in town and he’s one of the crankiest men I’ve ever met. But I digress….
The second book, Roses for Rachel, shares how Laura’s sister Rachel deals with life as a widow and single parent after her low-life husband Jake is killed. Poor girl is a sucker for pretty boys. She winds up being stalked by… well, again, I’m not allowed to say. Luckily, Elliot Truman comes to her rescue and she finally realizes you can’t judge a book by its cover. That boy’s mother and I are close friends, and I’ll tell you, she was thrilled when he got rid of those nerdy clothes and glasses. Oh, I hope I haven’t told too much.
Best of all, Violets for Vanessa has recently been released. Now Vanessa Gallagher has a story to tell! That father of hers – well, let’s just say he and I used to be an ‘item.’ Until Vanessa’s mother came along. Humpf. Don’t even get me started on that woman. Anyway, Chad James, Laura and Rachel’s brother, has his sights set on young Vanessa. Don’t ask me why! One of these days those Gallaghers are going to be served their just desserts. You mark my words.

Rumor has it that Dianne’s already working on the next novel in the series, Sunflowers for Sarita. Sarita Santos is the sister of Rachel's late husband Jake. Amazingly this former stripper is somewhat related to the James family. She found God and supposedly turned her life around. Sure, she goes to church on Sunday, but she still has eyes for the men. She's been hanging on the arm of that wealthy Max Carter. My hairdresser, Tiffany, used to date him. I think she might have a story or two for Sarita. But more details on that little vamp later.
